The Recce

Today we were told to photograph according to the visuals we were given. If we were unable to match them we were asked to get as close to the visuals as we could. We were given 3 hours to complete this task. To complete this task I will need to have good observation skills if I am to find what I am looking for.

I tweaked my image slightly. Firstly I burnt in the sky, as it was too bright, I did this using the burn tool, the sky was far too bright failing to contain any detail. Secondly I cloned out the piece of rubbish and the squirrel as I found them distracting, I did this using the clone tool to copy the grass, this was then placed over the distractions. I know this Recce shot would be rejected as I failed to find a single tree; this was the closest I managed to find however it still has many distractions within it unlike the visual. For this location I don’t feel permission would be needed as it is a public place and no private property has been used.

For this image I cropped in very close as you can see from the images above. I think this image would be accepted as although its not 'scary' it is mysterious which is a similar to something potentially being scary. I photographed this door as the faded paint made me think of the horror/ scary theme. The image was taken in Solihull town centre. As it is a public place permission would not be needed however, if photographed here on the proper shoot it may be an obstruction to the public.

If you were to use this bench you may be an obstruction to the public depending on the placement of the bench. My angle for this image is completely wrong. I seem to be looking up at the bench rather than standing at the side looking down the planks. Due to my angle being wrong and not what was expected of the client I know this image would be rejected.

I have failed to achieve the same angle as the visual however I do think a client would accept this image as I have still allowed enough space above the chimney for the writing. I have also made sure I have found a chimney with four pots on top.

Overall I feel my images share a lot of similarities with the visuals I was presented with. My angles are all wrong which has shown me that i need to focus on the positioning of myself when taking images and really think about what the client is asking me for. I really enjoyed having to use my observation skills to try and find what I was asked to produce however I did struggle to angle my images properly and feel this is something I definitely need to work on in the future.

Please feel free to leave feedback, it would be much appreciated.

  1. I think your door is your best shot, the bench has a metal arm with was not in the brief that is a shame as it would have been a close match otherwise.

  2. Kirsty at least you came back with something, although you need to pay closer attention to the angles and composition. remember its what the client wants and that's what pays
